Sarnath in Uttar Pradesh and Bodh Gaya in Bihar become the centre of attention during this time as pilgrims from all over the world come here to attend the Buddha Purnima celebrations. The day is marked with prayer meets, sermons, meditation and processions.
Devotees offer incense and fruits to the statue of Buddha. They also sprinkle milk and scented water on its roots and light rows of lamps around it.
